The Floating Sauna is a private sauna raft north of Gällnö, in the middle Stockholm archipelago in Värmdö municipality. You get exclusive use of the whole raft: a wood-heated sauna with panoramic sea views, a cosy lounge area and direct access to the sea for swimming. Firewood for heating, a barbecue with charcoal and lighting supplies, and drinking water are included. The raft takes up to 18 guests. The sauna is available all year. Stockholm By Boat offers it as a private session and as a package with a private motorboat and a licensed captain, with about 1.5 hours' ride each way and about two hours at the sauna. Gällnö makes a fine backdrop. Much of the island is a nature reserve, protected since 1978 and extended in 2017 and 2024. Länsstyrelsen Stockholm gives its size as 270 hectares, of which 150 hectares are land, and Skärgårdsstiftelsen, the Archipelago Foundation, manages it. The centre of the island is open farmland with fields and pastures, and the village consists largely of original farm buildings. Länsstyrelsen describes the whole island as a well-preserved, genuine archipelago environment with working farms. The pastures have a species-rich flora. On Västerholmen there is a lot of broadleaf forest, with lime, ash, elm and oak, and many of the trees are old and large. Norrviken, east of Brännholmen, is a protected shallow bay where motorboats and jet skis are not allowed. On the island there is a general store, a rest and information cabin, a public mooring and a hostel, and the reserve has a cycle route and an information board. In the reserve, dogs must be kept on a lead. Waxholmsbolaget runs boats to Gällnö Söderby. From Strandvägen, the route via Vaxholm and Grinda is an estimated 23 nautical miles: about 11 nautical miles to Vaxholm, according to Båtturistguiden's distance table, about 8 nautical miles on to Grinda and about 4 nautical miles from Grinda to Gällnö. Cruise time is about 1h 30min at 15 knots in a motorboat and about 2h 55min at 8 knots in a yacht. These are estimated cruise times at those speeds, not a scheduled departure, and the actual time depends on traffic, speed limits and conditions on the water.
