Finnhamn is a group of islands in the middle Stockholm archipelago, east of Ljusterö, in Österåker municipality. Skärgårdsstiftelsen, the Archipelago Foundation, owns and manages the islands, and large parts of Finnhamn are a nature reserve, protected since 2000. Länsstyrelsen gives the reserve as 684 hectares, 186 of them land. Skärgårdsstiftelsen calls Finnhamn one of the most visited destinations in the Stockholm archipelago, with swimming spots and walking trails through deciduous woods, meadows, farmland and rugged archipelago nature. On the islands there is a hostel, a cabin village, a campsite, several guest harbors, a sauna, a sandy beach, a café, and Finnhamns krog, a seasonal restaurant with a rooftop bar. STF Finnhamn hostel is in the large yellow house, a former private summer residence that has been a landmark in the archipelago for more than 100 years. Finnhamns krog is down by the steamboat jetty, in a former summer villa. The restaurant says it has closed for the 2026 season and will reopen at Valborg (Walpurgis Night, at the end of April) 2027. In season it serves a classic lunch and an à la carte menu that changes through the season. Takbaren, on the restaurant roof, has a 250 m² deck and nearly 150 seats; in season its bar and kitchen open at midsummer and stay open Tuesday to Sunday until mid-August. The country store sells everything from coffee and ice cream to groceries and is open daily from June to August. Ragnars kiosk, on the beach at Paradisviken, sells ice cream, coffee and waffles and rents out kayaks, SUP boards and rowing boats. Idholmens gård is a farm with cows and hens and a farm shop selling vegetables and produce from its own organic fields. Finnhamn has three guest harbors: Paradisviken, the largest, with electricity, water and free Wi-Fi; Vandrarhemsviken, below the hostel, with around 20 berths with electricity and water and a septic pump-out; and Söder Långholm, a floating jetty in a more natural setting. Waxholmsbolaget serves Finnhamn year-round from Strömkajen in Stockholm. From Strandvägen, the fairway route is an estimated 27 nautical miles. Cruise time is 1h 50min at 15 knots in a motorboat, and 3h 25min at 8 knots in a yacht. Those are estimated cruise times at those speeds, not a scheduled departure.
