Sandhamns Värdshus is a classic inn in the village of Sandhamn on Sandön, in the outer Stockholm archipelago, and traces its history back to 1672, when the first inn on Sandhamn opened. The inn's own history tells of a new veranda built in 1894, later glazed in, and of an August in 1896 when Verner von Heidenstam, Gustaf Fröding, Albert Engström and their friends took their meals together at the inn. Much of the building burned down in December 1940; it was rebuilt from the old drawings and reopened in May 1941. Today the pub is the heart of the house and is open all year, serving classics such as S.O.S. (butter, cheese and herring), a fish and shellfish stew and the house Värdshusbiff, along with a lunch menu. Upstairs, the restaurant has a view over the harbour; it is open every day from mid-June to mid-September and mainly at weekends the rest of the year, and you are welcome to book a table. In summer the outdoor terrace opens, with its own menu served from Holken, and Pentaboden serves seafood in the old workshop. The inn also offers bed and breakfast in Missionshuset. The KSSS guest harbour, three pontoon jetties with around 150 guest berths, lies in front of Seglarhotellet and is open from the last weekend of April to the last weekend of October; 20 berths can be booked in advance through Dockspot. The inn is a short walk away through the village. From Strandvägen, the route out through the archipelago to Sandhamn is an estimated 28 nautical miles. Cruise time is about 1h 50min at 15 knots in a motorboat, and about 3h 30min at 8 knots in a yacht. Those are estimated cruise times at those speeds, not a scheduled departure.
