The Old Smokehouse is a wood-fired barbecue restaurant at Smedsuddsvägen 1 in Lännersta, Saltsjö-Boo, in Nacka municipality, with views over Lännerstasundet. It describes itself as Stockholm's first real wood-fired BBQ restaurant, and as the oldest wood-fired BBQ restaurant in Stockholm. The kitchen combines American BBQ culture with Swedish smoking traditions. Meat, seafood and vegetables are slow-smoked in wood-fired smokers, from ribs and pulled pork to smoked seafood and vegetarian dishes, with a focus on seasonal ingredients. The restaurant has a large heated outdoor terrace where tables cannot be booked: it is first come, first served. If you have to wait, you can have a drink in the bar or at the food truck on the jetty. The food truck is open at weekends and on sunny days and serves simpler BBQ, such as nachos with pulled pork, Cubanos with brisket or tuna, and smoked shrimp, plus ice cream. When the weather allows, you can arrive by boat. The restaurant has its own jetty with about ten mooring places on buoys. On its website, the restaurant lists opening hours of 11.30–22.00 Monday to Thursday, 11.30–23.00 on Friday, 12.00–23.00 on Saturday and 12.00–22.00 on Sunday. Hours can change, so check before you go. Several boat operators run trips here from central Stockholm. Strand Rederi offers taxi boats for groups, and Öppet Hav runs combat boat tours towards Skurusundet that arrive at the restaurant's private jetty. With a private boat you can combine lunch or dinner with a short tour of the inner archipelago and be back in the city the same afternoon or evening. The route from Strandvägen runs east past Djurgården and Blockhusudden, then through Skurusundet towards Lännerstasundet. Our own estimate of the distance along that route is about 6 nautical miles.
